How do I lift weights if im just starting personal weight training?

Im 15 and one of my brothers freinds told me to me to lift heavy weights in small reps.Another told me the complete opposite to lift light weights but in higher reps.Whats the best form if I want to gain weight?

well, I am in XC (cross country) and we have started weights. We run 1/2 a mile to warm-up (if you don’t you are realllly soar, it’s not good for you) and then we stretch. We use 5 pds. or more, we do lunges, 3 arms and 3 legs (look how to do some of them up). 100 sit ups, 30 pushups. 30 running man. 30 "dance moves" (lift the weights up to your chest and put your arms down, keep doing that). 30 weights behind the head (lift weights behind your head). Wall sits for a minute 3 times (sit low on a wall). 30 crouches (take two weights make your legs shoulder length apart, crouch down with the weights making your but go out). One leg (hold weights, stand on leg and crouch down several times). And Lunges (grab some weights and do 40 steps, you can stop a bit in between) After that we run a cool down (1/2 a mile which is around the school, we cheat sometimes, heehee).
