SURVIVING ABUNDANCE: Overweight Kids in Crisis

A half hour documentary, produced by WHRO, examines the epidemic of childhood obesity. Childhood health professionals paint a grim picture for the future of overweight children unless we begin to make systemic changes that support more healthy choices. Local, state and national childhood health experts, including William H. Dietz, Jr., MD, PhD, Director of Nutrition & Physical Activity at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, discuss steps we can take to turn the tide, and the program highlights organizations with exemplary programs which encourage healthier lifestyles.

Surviving Abundance was produced in collaboration with the Consortium for Infant and Child Health (CINCH), a community partnership to promote health and prevent disease among all children in Hampton Roads.

I think that I caould agree with you on this.I am sitting here now on-line trying to find something to help one of my friends child.Of course both parents are very overweight with major health problems now the 3 year old has health problems.I has to start with the parents-some parents just need to be educated on this matter.

    The fomer principal …
The fomer principal at my child’s school for a year was a mean spirited, unhappy 5′3” 500 pound woman. Never saw her in the office that she didn’t have a meal on the go. This is not a healthy example of health for our children. No wonder she was moody and rude all the time…….must have had ginormous sugar fluctuations.highs and lows. Was very happy when she left the school and so were her co workers not to mention her victims……the students.

    Children and adults …
Children and adults are what they eat. Fat parents equal fat children. I see that everyday among the friends of my children. Disgusting. Glotony among the obese. How often do you see an obese person eating an apple or another piece of fruit in public. My obese school friends remained obese adults. Impulsive eating. I have never seen more fat people as I have living on the surrounding farms in my area. Disgusting to feel the earthquake when they walk across the floor. No will power.

    In each and every …
In each and every documentary on obesity, we see an obese parent complaining about their obese children. You are what you eat. Parents should be held accountable by law, for enabling obesity and glutony. Soda pop has already been banned in the school vending machines in Canada.

    Adults always worry …
Adults always worry about the kids weight. What about the parents themselves? And if the adults cared so much…arent they the ones who put the ”
ads” out in the first place. Thats all they ant to blame it on.

    Almost every food …
Almost every food product in America has sugar in it . . . even the milk!!!! It’s just ridiculous and people still buy this stuff. Somehow people are walking around like zombies and eating what is put in their face. . . . cupcakes, chips, sodas, ice cream, pop tarts, and french fries; everything the body does not need.
